In 2002 Cairns High was involved in the Secondary Schools Renewal Program (SSR). The SSR program was a facilities program which required schools to differentiate their curriculum by defining areas of particular expertise. These areas of expertise were to be supported by the development of new facilities. In 2002 Cairns High already had a strong reputation for academic excellence, excellence in performing arts, music, visual arts and sport and these areas became the focus of differentiation. The school was able to develop new facilities and refurbish some older facilities to support the programs of study in these areas. Cairns High now offers a range of Excellence Programs across these areas of study. The Excellence Programs are scheduled outside of school hours. The programs are extremely popular and the outcomes produced by students are outstanding. I encourage students to become involved in the Excellence Programs - it is very likely that your involvement in these programs will be one of the highlights of your time at Cairns High.
