Since 1993 Cairns State High School has offered a number of International Programs. These include both Student and teacher programs.

International Assistant Teacher Programs

Assistant Teacher Programs allow practising teachers or under-graduate education students an opportunity to experience programs available at Cairns State High School. Assistant Teachers may visit the school for ½ or 1 day visits or for 1 or more weeks.

International Assistant Teacher Programs – ½ day & 1 day visits

Day visits offer participants an overview of programs available at Cairns State High School. Standard or customised programs are available.

½ day (Morning Tea & Lunch provided) $100.00

International Assistant Teacher Programs – 1 week or more visits

Visits of one week or more allow participants to experience day to day programs and a true insight into the runnings of a large high school.

Availability of International Assistant Teacher Places

Places for International Assistant Teachers are available in Terms 1, 2 & 3. Dates vary on an annual basis.

Criteria for International Assistant Teacher Applicants

Applicants must have the following attributes:

• Ability to show initiative
• Good communication skills
• Flexibility
• Detailed knowledge of own culture

Inclusions in International Assistant Teacher Program for 1-10 week stays

Above costings do not apply to Assistant Teachers from Education Queensland registered programs.

Our minimum expectations

• Participation in negotiated timetable & school activities
• Sharing of cultural & linguistic knowledge with students & staff
• Presentation to staff @ staff meeting (for longer visits) and / or writing of an article for the school newsletter

Extra Services

Homestay

A homestay placement is available. The school operates Homestay under the guidelines of Education Queensland International and is able to provide placements with either Staff or Cairns State High School families.

Cost per week $200.00

Airport Reception

An airport reception service is also available. Visitors will be greeted by school personnel and transported to homestay / accommodation.
