​Cairns State High will celebrate with community on Friday 17 August. We will mark NAIDOC day on this day, and the students and Mr Zilm have been planning the day as an opportunity for all to learn about 'Because of Her we can'; the theme.


Learning activities have been set for classes leading up to the day with reflection on stories about various indigenous people from around our region and beyond, poster designing, brainstorming and workshopping and historical awarness. There will also be a staff vs students Indigenous Games in the Sports Complex at first break on Thursday.


On Friday 17 August the program will be as follows:

  • 7:30am Smoking Ceremony, BBQ breakfast with families, David Hudson (Didge) and Yidinji Dancers (Crosswell Hall area)
  • 9am Year 11/12 NAIDOC assembly
  • 10:10am Year 10/09 NAIDOC assembly
  • 11:15am BBQ Kangaroo and Crocodile tasting
  • 1:15pm Torres Strait Islander dancers and Ochre face painting
  • 1:55pm Year 7/8 NAIDOC assembly
