Aaron Fearne Cairns High Principal for the day


Cairns State High School will continue its valued tradition of celebrating State Education Week next week. Education Week is an opportunity to showcase the tremendous amount of dedication and talent of the students and staff at Cairns High.

Head Coach for the Taipans, Aaron Fearne as Principal for the day will be shadowing the school’s Principal to conclude the week on Friday 23 May. The ‘Principal for a Day’ is an annual program that enables schools to forge important partnerships with the community. Mr Fearne will be involved in numerous activities as well as interacting with students throughout the day.

Mr Fearne arrived in Cairns in 1998 and has had a major influence in the development of Junior Basketball in the region. He has been with the Cairns Taipans since inception and is known for his ability of scouting young talent. Mr Fearne has personally competed in four National ABA tournaments winning two championships and has also played with the Cairns Taipans. He has coached a number of North Queensland representative teams including the Cairns Taipans Academy program. 

The remainder of Education Week will include a daily array of activities, showcasing the school’s excellence programs, vast academic opportunities and international connections.

  • International Baccalaureate Activity Day

  • National champions Bulldog Cheer squad demonstrations
  • Music Evening
  • Cupcake designing
  • Ceramics and oil painting art exhibitions from the junior and senior Centres of Excellence
  • P&C Day Morning Tea acknowledging volunteers
  • Science and Computer Skills competitions
  • Boating excursions for Marine Education students
