Annie JR - Musical 2016

Don’t miss the heart-warming tale and inspirational narrative for today’s youth …. Annie JR!

Cairns State High School’s long and vibrant history of excellence in Performing Arts and reputation for producing talent such as Brenton Thwaites and Erin Holland, have always been highlighted in the production of the school’s spectacular musicals.

This year’s musical, Annie JR, is a very popular show and tickets are selling fast. Under the guidance of Artistic Director Ms Nicole Cleland and supporting Performing Arts staff, students are eager for the curtain to open next Friday. Even Annie’s beloved dog Sandy, yes a real live dog, is pawing at his chance to be on stage in Crosswell Hall.

“The talent of our junior student actors, singers and dancers is shining through in rehearsals so it’s advisable that tickets be bought quickly to ensure a night of laughter and enjoyment”, expressed Ms Nicole Cleland, Artistic Director.

Annie JR features everyone’s favourite little redhead in her very first adventure. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie’s story is about her determination to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. The fiery young lass eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. The musical is adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical and the beloved book and score are also by Tony Award-winners; Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin.

The uplifting story of a young adolescent’s adventures is a heart-warming tale for parents and an inspirational narrative for today’s youth. Performed by talented junior students of Cairns State High School, Annie JR is a show for adults and children alike.

The musical will again be presented in conjunction with CQUniversity. “CQUniversity is the major Performing Arts Faculty sponsor as well as the exclusive naming rights sponsor for the musical this year. Their support is very much appreciated and we look forward to a continued mutually beneficial collaboration”, commented Ms Laura Mazzolini, Acting Principal.

Annie JR will be performed at Crosswell Hall on Friday 5 August and Saturday 6 August at 7.00pm. There will also be a matinee on Saturday 6 August at 11.00am
