Brave Cairns High Students Ready to Shave

Tomorrow, Friday the 13th, thirteen Cairns High students, including three females, will be brave and shave for a worthy cause, the Leukaemia Foundation. The group of students have been out and about shaking their tins for donations to support people with blood cancer.

Mr Paul Cancellier, Senior Student Council Coordinator is organising the event this year and is proud that it is a long standing and valued tradition of Cairns State High School. “This year, as in previous years the students are feeling a close connection with fundraising for the cause, having known someone or associated with sufferers of this terrible disease,” Mr Cancellier commented.

“It’s great to see the students getting involved, learning about their region and it’s health services whilst having fun and getting crazy to make a difference,” commented Mr Anthony Easton, Deputy Principal Student Services. Many Cairns High students will participate in a crazy hair morning creating colourful styles, followed by the big event in Crosswell Hall at lunch time, where the brave will shave!

More than 12,000 Australians will be diagnosed with blood cancer this year which is equivalent to 31 people every day! The money the Cairns High students will raise goes towards research and individual and family support. This includes transport to and from treatment, and accommodation for regional Australians, like Cairns residents.

The Cairns community can assist by heading to the World’s Greatest Shave website and making a donation to the Cairns High team. Click on the heart symbol to sponsor, and then click on the tab ‘Sponsor a whole team’. Type in the Team Name CSHS Bulldogs and make a donation to help the team reach their target.
