CHAPS Launch and Class of 1964 Golden Jubilee Reunion Tour

Past students Ailsa Day (nee Smith), Ailsa Ballard (nee McGill) and Charles Woodward with their former teacher Charles Reich

On Friday afternoon Cairns State High School will be welcoming the 1964 Golden Jubilee group of past students. Their visit will start with a tour of the school highlighting the changes since the group’s graduation and will conclude with an afternoon tea and presentation.

“It is wonderful to see past students from the Cairns community coming together and supporting the school”, commented Mrs Angela Toppin, Principal.

The presentation will launch CHAPS (Cairns High Association of Past Students) and the group will be donating a cheque to the school to launch the association. The funds will act as seed money to the school’s new scholarship fund.  The Class of ’64 will be acknowledged as the founding year of the scholarship fund.

“It is important for past students to give back and help provide for our future students as Cairns State High School was such an important part of our early life growing up in Cairns”, commented Charles Woodward, one of the ‘Class of ‘64’.

Cairns State High School is already in preparation mode to celebrate its 100 year anniversary in 2017 and will be collating stories from CHAPS members to commemorate their times at the school.

A full colour hard copy of the Cairns State High School ‘Annals’ is in first draft and will document the history with photographs of the school since 1917. This will be published for the 100 year anniversary.
