Cairns High announces students' acceptance to the Young Scholars Program at UQ

Cairns State High School is delighted to announce that three students have been selected to attend the University of Queensland (UQ) Young Scholars Program. Special congratulations to Natasha Harlen, Munjeet Kaur and Christina Lee.

Christina commenced the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, a pre-university course offered at Cairns High, at the end of last year. Christina is thrilled to have been selected into the Young Scholars Program (YSP). She will join other talented and like-minded students and engage with the university’s academic community including a team of UQ Student Mentors.

“Finding out about my acceptance into this program was a welcomed surprise. The residential camp will give me a better insight into the Law course on offer, which is my desired area for tertiary studies”, Christina commented.

The five day residential camp later this year will be held at the St Lucia Campus of UQ. Christina will gain a valuable insight into life at university. The collaborative forums she will be involved in, as well as the range of social, sporting and cultural activities which complement the academic program, will be enjoyable and beneficial for her.

“I am very excited to get a feel of university life and living on campus. This opportunity will be very valuable and for that I am eternally grateful”, she commented.

The YSP camp is designed to nurture and develop exceptional students, like Christina, as they complete their senior schooling. It provides a fantastic opportunity for extension and enrichment.

“I am very proud of Christina’s achievements; she is a very motivated and focussed young lady. Always embracing every opportunity she genuinely wants to meet and work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and tackle some of our pressing global issues”, commented Ms Marise Roche, Christina’s IB English Teacher and HOD English and Languages.
