Senior Leaders interviewed by CIS representative

Representatives of the Council of International Schools (CIS) have returned to Far North Queensland. Cairns State High School has welcomed Regional Accreditation Officer, Christine Green and Adelaide High School Principal, Anita Zocchi for a preparatory visit from Tuesday 26 August until Friday 29 August.

Cairns State High School “has something and someone for everyone”.  This was the unanimous opinion of the group of Student Leaders and the Student Council members.  “Cairns High offers many options for us to achieve our personal best.”

“A school that undertakes this rigorous process is a school that knows itself well, is willing to reflect and self-assess and is focused on continuous improvement in support of the students it serves and their learning and well-being”, commented Ms Green.

In 2005 Cairns State High School attained International Accreditation with the Council of International Schools. This prestigious accreditation was awarded to the school as it met rigorous international standards and indicators. The accreditation demonstrates the school’s commitment to high quality international education to parents, students and staff members and ensures it is continually improving and keeping up with the best education standards in the world. Only 400 high schools across the world have been awarded this accreditation.

An 18 month self-study process was undertaken by Cairns High as part of the comprehensive and extensive accreditation process. In 2010 the school hosted a five year visit to confirm that the school was maintaining the internationally benchmarked education standards.

Teams from across the school including staff, parents and students have been involved in meetings and presentations with the visiting team.  The purpose of the visit is to reaffirm that the school is at a stage to commence the next self-study cycle and embark on the re-accreditation process.  A whole of school review of activities and programs will take place, verifying the great things accomplished and performed at Cairns High and highlighting any areas for improvement and development.

Mrs Angela Toppin, Cairns State High School Principal has high expectations. “I believe the school is well on track to retain international accreditation. It assures the school community that we will continue to deliver high quality programs for our students”, she commented.
