Council of International School's Visiting Team, 15 to 20 May 2016
Representatives of the Council of International Schools (CIS) are returning to Cairns. Cairns State High School will welcome Mr Ernie Fleming, Principal Bendigo South East College and Chair of the CIS visiting team at a function this Sunday, 15 May.

In 2005 Cairns State High School attained international accreditation with CIS. A five year visit in 2010 showed that the school maintained internationally benchmarked standards. Another five years and another rigorous 18 month self-study process later, this visit will again demonstrate that the school is continually improving and keeping up with the best education standards in the world. Only 40 high schools across Australia have been awarded this prestigious accreditation.

One of the first events on the calendar for the visit is the welcome function to which Cairns High teachers, staff, students (past and present) and other members of the Cairns community have been invited. Mayor Manning, past student ambassador of Cairns High will support the school in welcoming the team in front of an anticipated 300+ crowd. The visiting team will continue their schedule with meetings and presentations throughout next week with various staff, parent and student groups.

Mr Ernie Fleming Chair of the visiting team commented: “Cairns State High School’s accreditation with the Council of International Schools clearly indicates its commitment to providing a learning program that is valued and valuable for all enrolled students. The process to maintain accreditation includes regular visits by CIS educators and staff. Cairns State High School’s application to maintain accreditation demonstrates its whole community commitment to ongoing, whole school improvement to maintain a world standard education for its students. Belonging to a worldwide network of schools provides a great forum for sharing best practice.”

Ms Laura Mazzolini, Cairns State High School’s Acting Principal has high expectations for the outcome of the visit. “Considerable time and effort has been put into the self-study and reaccreditation visit preparation. This internal and external analysis assures the community that we continue to provide an internationally recognised high quality experience to our students. The feedback we receive will guide our five year strategic plan.  The team comprises interstate as well as international educators and we are looking forward to working with them over the next week”, she commented.
