Senior CHAPS Morning Tea with our more "senior" CHAPS Members talking about life at Cairns High in the 30s, 40s and 50s. Also in attendance were CHAPS Ambassadors Cr Bob Manning and local tourism icon Mr Charles Woodward.
Cairns State High School is searching for 27,000 students to invite to their Centenary Celebrations throughout 2017. Cairns High will celebrate its 100 year milestone with the launch of a centenary book, class reunions and school tours, displays of memorabilia and other official school events throughout the year.

“I value the chance to meet with past students and to share our life’s stories”, commented past student and Mayor of Cairns, Cr Bob Manning.

Parents, former teachers and students are encouraged to join the Cairns High Centenary Celebrations facebook page to keep up to date with the events being organised for 2017.

“We should celebrate the achievements of current and past students, and take great pride in where we’ve come from”, commented past School Captain and Seven Network News Journalist, Kendall Gilding.

Past students are also encouraged to join CHAPS (Cairns High Association of Past Students) with donations contributing towards a scholarship fund. Further information and a Membership Form can be found on the Past Students page of the Cairns High website.

“CHAPS allows for the past students to continue their connection with the school”, commented past student Ron Tong of Big Blue Self Storage Southside, past President Cairns Chamber of Commerce and recent Director of Advance Cairns.

The 1964 Golden Jubilee Reunion group launched CHAPS at the end of 2014 and their donation acted as seed money for the scholarship. Since the Class of 1964’s reunion a database to assist reunion organisers in the future has also been established.

“Our class of 1964 has got the ball rolling with a scholarship. We strongly encourage other past students to also become involved and contribute to the alumni association to improve the future of our youth”, commented Charles Woodward of CAPTA Group, past  student and longstanding benefactor of the Cairns community including in his role as Director of COUCH.

Members of the Cairns High community who know of any past students and/or teachers are encouraged to share this news. Also families who have homestayed International Students who were enrolled at Cairns High are requested to get in touch and spread the word.

“Having an alumni network is a wonderful way to stay in contact and provide an invaluable mentoring system to current students”, commented past student and Miss World Australia 2013, Erin Holland.

Past students should reconnect with the school and show their support for the school's ongoing success”, commented Bill Cummings of Cummings Economics, past student and 2015 Cairns Regional Council Citizen of the Year.

A special morning tea for a collection of the Senior CHAPS members is to be hosted by the Principal, CHAPS Coordinators and the P&C’s Centenary Celebrations Committee to mark the ongoing preparations for the Centenary Celebrations next year. Mayor Manning and other successful and well known past students will be in attendance.
