CAIRNS’ SCHOOL LEADERS FORM “CAPTAINS COUNCIL” TO BRING ABOUT POSITIVE CHANGE AND ADVOCATE FOR STUDENTS

School leaders from State High Schools, Catholic and Independent schools met at Cairns State High School this week and formed a “Captains’ Council” to advocate for school students across Cairns.

The Captains have resolved to work together and support each other across their schools and in the wider community.

The Captains will develop ideas and action in response to concerns and opportunities.

The school leaders plan to be a voice for school students across Cairns and act together as a catalyst for change.

In Cairns State High School’s auditorium, the enthusiastic school leaders discussed how they would self-manage their monthly meetings and share the workload of managing the Captains’ Council’s business.

Cairns State High School Captain Morgan Lui said, “We see our priorities as showcasing positive experiences at our respective schools so others can benefit and improving student well-being.  The student leaders of our schools will advocate for school students within our schools and across Cairns.”

Cairns High Vice Captain, Ella Cohen, said:  “Some of work will help students within the schools, by bridging the gap between junior and senior schools, and assisting the schools with things the teachers don’t always see.  We want to increase the participation of students in all areas of school life.”
