Collecting glasses (prescription and sunglasses) for YWAM Medical Ships

By Morgan Elliston, Year 12

I am in my last year of high school at Cairns State High School, and I am a youth ambassador for YWAM (Youth With a Mission) Medical Ships Australia. This year I am helping YWAM Medical Ships by collecting old glasses, Prescription or Sunglasses. There is a collection point at Cairns High Library and other local libraries.

YWAM Medical Ships Australia aims to care, connect, serve and build individuals and communities in rural Papua New Guinea (PNG). YWAM Medical Shipsvision is based on the need for a respectful and collaborative partnership with the people of PNG and Australia. The aim is to see major, sustainable health improvement and education in PNG while simultaneously seeing relationships strengthened between Australia and PNG.

To see improved quality of life for the people of PNG through development-focused programs, with the current emphasis on the health sector, while also building Australianscapacity to serve through volunteering.

Poor vision is the world’s largest unaddressed disability.  Preventing children from getting an education, undermining economic productivity and entrenching gender inequality around the world.

Let's all chip in and donate old glasses either prescription or sunglasses to the school and I will collect and deliver to YWAM with the Cairns Community Ambassador Yolonde Entsch, when it docks in Cairns at the end of July this year.

Please help, the people of PNG to see a better future.
