Artistic Director of the Queensland Music Festival, James Morrison, will be the official special guest at the upcoming G20 Tropical Jam Concert on Tuesday 16 September. The Cairns Regional Council has encouraged locals to lay out a picnic blanket under the star-filled sky and enjoy the star-studded community cultural celebration.

The internationally famous Mr Morrison continues to write film scores and compose, and also dedicates time to conducting master classes and workshops with talented youth both in Australia and beyond.

Mr Morrison will be conducting an exclusive workshop (and pre-concert rehearsal) with the Cairns State High School Stage Band tomorrow, Tuesday 9 September. Mr Morrison will be performing 3 pieces with the school’s Stage Band at next week’s G20 Tropical Jam Concert, to be held at the Fogarty Park Soundshell.

This is a rare but well deserved opportunity for the Cairns State High School Stage Band who have won their category at the Cairns and District Junior Eisteddfod for the past two years.

“James Morrison is truly a world class performer and the audience is expected to be tremendous”, commented Jon Christodoulides, Cairns State High School Conductor.

The Cairns High instrumentalists have been provided with an extra performance duty and another goal to work towards as professional musicians.

“This is tuition in the jazz medium at the highest level in the world! Cairns High is really lucky to have him [Mr James Morrison] come to the school and work with us”, Mr Christodoulides added.
