Rachel Sporn, former Opals Australian Basketballer and Triple Olympian visits Cairns High

Rachel Sporn, former Opals Australian Basketballer, will visit Cairns State High School to conduct a Basketball Clinic with the Cairns High Basketball Excellence Program this Friday, 6 March.
As a winner of the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2015, Rachel has had an elite level career in basketball spanning 19 years. She played for The Opals, the Australian Women’s Basketball team, from 1989 to 2004 and is a triple Olympian and campaigner for women’s sport.
Rachel will operate drills and break away sessions with the students providing them with a unique and targeted once in a life time experience.
“This is an absolutely amazing opportunity for the students; to work with such a high profile athlete and talk with her about her experiences is a life moment which will be cherished by these lucky students”, commented Amy Fearne, Basketball Excellence Program Coach.
Students in the program at Cairns High are required to undergo a trial upon enrolment and are expected to do a minimum of a one hour fitness session plus a two hour skills session each week to maintain their position. Students have the opportunity of up to four skills sessions with professional coaches each week and are exposed to industry professionals due to their talent, commitment and passion for the sport.
These students have also been invited to attend the BLA Sportsperson Breakfast on the Friday morning at which Rachael Sp0rn is the guest speaker.
