Renovations for Centenary kick off

Thanks to the sponsorship by Cairns businesses and families we are able to commence the major Centenary restoration project of the iconic entry of the school.

On Tuesday this week the two lamps flanking the doors have been taken down and carefully packaged up to be sent to Brisbane for restoration work.

These lanterns will be returned fully functioning to their previous position in time for the gala ‘Back to 1917’ Supper Club to be held at the school. These beautiful lamps will be lovingly restored by an expert in the field.

Between now and the start of next term a lot will be happening in the foyer with the flowing being restored by a specialist in terrazzo flooring, the staircase will be returned to its former glory with a careful strip and resurface and the main foyer windows will have the 1970s aluminium frames replaced with hardwood and a whole large pane of glass really giving the area its former magnificence.

For generations, this landing and entry to the administration has been a place held dear to their time at Cairns High.
