Excellence programs

Cairns State High School has Centres of Excellence in Performing Arts, Music, Visual Arts, Sport and Engineering. Students wishing to enter the International Baccalaureate program participate in a selection process.
 
 
 
Each of the Centres operates Programs of Excellence in:
  • Art

  • Basketball

  • Chamber Strings

  • Choir

  • Dance

  • Drama

  • Engineering & Aerospace

  • Film

  • Football

  • Hockey

  • Strings Orchestra

  • Symphonic Winds

and

The various Programs of Excellence are offered in Junior and/or Senior School and run as additional programs before or after school.
 
In 2019, the COES will be joined by two extension programs specificially for Cairns State High students and the Year 9 Italian Immersion program which will run in the regular timetable slot.

The programs are very popular and entry is via application and/or an audition process. Entry into the Engineering and International Baccalaureate Programs of Excellence will require students to sit an academic aptitude test.
