Homework provides students with the opportunity to consolidate their classroom learning, pattern behaviour for lifelong learning beyond the classroom and involve family members in their learning.

The role of parents and caregivers with homework

  • talk with them and involve them in household tasks
  • help them to complete tasks by discussion and direction
  • encourage organisation and responsibility
  • encourage reading, discussion and taking an interest in  current events
  • assist in balancing their time
  • periodically monitor the homework diary
  • communicate with teachers, HODs and Year Level Coordinators

Amount of homework

Years 7, 8 and 9 

- up to but generally not more than 5 hours per week.

Includes daily independent reading, across different subjects and will sometimes be extension of classwork, projects and research.

Years 10, 11 and 12

- on a regular basis however will vary according to individual needs and programs and is determined by their SET plan.

This phase expects independent learning and care should be taken to ensure a balance is maintained between the various demands of study, sporting, cultural, recreational and part-time employment activities.
