Australian Defence Force Recruitment Process
  • Can apply at 16 ½ but can’t join until 17 years old
  • Must be an Australian citizen
  • 3- Step Process as follows;
1.      YOU (Your Opportunities Unlimited) Session
·         Relaxed and informal
·         Bring birth certificate (preferable)
Consists of Career counselling (3/4 hour), Aptitude test (computer based – 1 hour), Medical questionnaire with nurse
A list of jobs for which you can apply are generated from the aptitude test.

2.      Assessment Day
·       Interview with psychologist
·       Medical Officer – go through questionnaire and physical test

3.      Fitness Test
·       Occurs one month prior to joining – can do practices
Different standards for female/male and between Navy/Army/Air Force
Minimum Educational Requirements:
General Entry
Non-Technical – Year 10 Maths and English (exceptions may apply)
Technical (Trades/Apprentices) – Year 10 Maths, English and Science (exceptions may apply)
Officer Entry
Officer – Year 12 Maths, English and 3 other Authority/General subjects
ADFA (Australian Defence Force Academy)
Student to be on an OP/ATAR pathway
Apply through both Defence Force (can start process at 16 years) and UAC (University Admissions Centre – UNSW)
