Day 1 of High School
We were thrilled to welcome our new cohort of Year 7 students to Cairns State High School today!
Throughout the day, we saw students stepping out of their comfort zones and rising to the new challenges of high school with enthusiasm and energy.
On Tuesday morning, Year 7 students will go straight to their Connect classes. Students should arrive by 8:40am for an 8:45am start.
On Wednesday, they have a chance for a sleep-in! Students are expected to arrive by 9:15am for a 9:20am start.
Our key message is for our students to Connect and to Be the Best They Can Be. On Wednesday, all Year 7 students will investigate a calendar of Year 7 activities, including information on the huge array of teams, ensembles, and clubs we have at school. All Year 7 students are expected to participate in 1 extra-curricular activity at school per term. We are sure they will find something they love to do with their new Year 7 friends.
Transitioning to High School
Transitioning to high school is both an exciting and stressful time of life for students (and their families!). Your student will need plenty of encouragement and reminders of what to pack for each day as they can become overloaded whilst managing this transition. After the long summer holiday, it is also a great time to set age-appropriate boundaries with technology to help them stay focussed at school.

To celebrate the first month of high school, the Year 7s will participate in an excursion to Sugarworld. Permission and payment forms will be emailed to you shortly, with the cost per student at approximately $37. This includes bus transfer, lunch, and entry to the park. Permission and payment forms are due by Wednesday 15th February.
